My name is Rick Rosinski. I am currently the Treasurer of Wolverine Bank in Midland, MI. I have held many positions in the
Bank, including Teller, Loan Clerk, Loan Analyst, and Assistant Treasurer. I received the CMA (Certified Management Accountant)
in September, 1997, and the
CFM (Certified in Financial Management) in July, 1998. I graduated from Bay City All Saints High School, and have a BBA with
a major in Accounting from Northwood University in Midland, MI. I am currently a member of the Institute of Management Accountants
and Financial Managers Society.
I am also the former Sysop (system operator) and proprietor of the Wolverine Bulletin Board System (online from 07/88 until
03/08/96), am a former member of the Midland Computer Club, and held various leadership positions in the Club (Technical Reviewer,
Newsletter Editor, Disk Librarian, Vice President, President from 1988 until 1993, Amiga SIG
[Special Interest Group] founder and Chairman, IBM SIG founder and Chairman, and BBS & Internet SIG founder and Chairman).
As part of the BBS, I was a member of the Association of Shareware Professionals (ASP), the Electronic Frontier Foundation,
and a founding member of the
Association of Online Professionals (AOP).
I started working with computers back in 1985 when we got a XT clone at work to run Lotus 1-2-3. I purchased my first home
computer, a Commodore 128, back in 1986. In 1989, I upgraded to an Amiga 500 and then in 1991 I traded that in for an Amiga
2000. Finally, I sold that Amiga and purchased an Amiga 1200 in January of 1993. I kept this until I sold it in August of
1994. Sooooo....I had a long history with Commodore computers in my home. It's a shame they aren't viable computers any
more, because the Amiga computer was really ahead of it's time. The Amiga computer is the ONLY computer I've seen capable
of GOOD multitasking...and this was in only 512k of RAM! Plus, the term "multimedia" started on the Amiga.
When I had my Commodore 128, I got a subscription to a now defunct online service called "QuantumLink" (a/k/a "Q-Link", now
known as America Online - ugh!) in late 1986. I
also got a free 300 baud modem with the subscription. I used this for about a year before I finally upgraded to a "speed
demon" 2400 baud modem. I used this for a while, calling Q-Link, subscribed to "PeopleLink" (a VERY good Amiga service, but
alas also another defunct online service...see a trend here?), looked around CompuServe (off and
on membership there...currently off), called many local BBS's, and decided, "Hey, I can do that!"
So in July of 1988, I put up the Wolverine BBS. I ran the system on a part-time basis for two years, and in May of 1990 I
purchased a brand new 20 MHz 386 machine with a whopping 210 MB hard drive (for only $3,200) and put the BBS up full-time.
Things started slow, but I kept
on plugging away, and before you knew it, the BBS had been voted to Boardwatch Magazine's Top 100 BBS List two years in a row (1992 and 1993). They since have stopped that list, but it was a fun thing
to be on.
Unfortunately, after nearly eight years of being online, I decided to shut the BBS down permanently on March 8, 1996. It
was a sad day, but it was time to move on to more profitable ventures and to have a family life again. [smile]
Even though I've mentioned a lot about Commodore and Amiga computers, I really haven't utilized them to any great extent the
last several years. My main use of computers has been with IBM compatibles, all the way from the aforementioned XT clone,
to 286's, 386's, 486's, Pentiums, Pentium II's, AMD Athlon XP and Pentium 4's. I've run just about every off-the-shelf database,
spreadsheet, word processor, and utility program ever released. In particular, nowadays I find myself using Windows
XP Pro (both at home and work), Microsoft Excel 2002, Microsoft Word 2002 (and the rest of Office XP), Microsoft FrontPage
2002, Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0, Microsoft Outlook 2002, Norton SystemWorks 2003, Quicken Deluxe 2003, Savings Bond
Wizard, PocketD Plus 5.1, Symantec pcAnywhere 10.0, VistaPro 4.0 and 4NT. Whew...that was a mouthful! I also use OpenOffice.org
1.1.0, Nero Burning Rom 5.5, PowerDVD, OrangeCD Player & Record Catalog (the BEST CD cataloging software, IMHO), TSE (The
SemWare
Editor) Pro 4.0, Spybot Search & Destroy, SETI @Home (I'm over 1,000 units now!),
Currently, some of my favorite PC games are Hasbro's Risk for Windows, Monopoly, Wing Commander IV, Wing Commander: The Kilrathi
Saga, Wing Commander Prophecy, Axis and Allies, Jack Nicklaus Golf 6, Shanghai Double Pack (includes
Shanghai II and Shanghai: Great Moments), Stratego, Steel Panthers, Steel Panthers II, Lance Haffner's Full Count Baseball,
Haffner's 3-in-1 Football (NFL, USFL and College), Haffner's Pro Basketball, and Haffner's Courtside College Basketball. Now
I don't get a chance to play
most of those games, but I can dream, can't I? [grin]
Actually, I don't play many games on the PC anymore as you can probably tell by the outdated list above. I bought a PlayStation
shortly after they came up and got a PlayStation 2 in 2001. My favorite all-time game is Dynasty Warriors 3. This game has
incredible depth and
addictive gameplay. I also like other Koei games, such as Dynasty Warriors 3: Extreme Legends, Dynasty Warriors 4, Kessen
II and Dynasty Tactics. Other PS and PS2 favorites include Die Hard Trilogy, Hot Wheels Turbo Racing, Jet Moto, Tekken 2,
Twisted Metal, and Gran Turismo 3.
I'm an old video game fanatic. My first video game system was a Mattel Intellivision in the early 80's. I've also owned,
at one time or another, a Sega Genesis (my all-time favorite system), Turbo Express handheld, Turbo Graphx-16, Turbo Duo,
Sega CD, Sega 32X, Gameboy, Nintendo, Atari 2600, Super Nintendo, and Sega Saturn.
I'm very much into progressive and prog-metal music nowadays. My favorite musicians include Cheap Trick, Dream Theater, Echolyn,
The Flower Kings, Genesis, Heart, Eric Johnson, Kansas, Led Zeppelin, Porcupine Tree, Rush, Joe Satriani, Shooting Star, Slaughter,
Spock's Beard, Styx, Supertramp, Threshold, Tiles, Transatlantic, Triumph, Robin
Trower, Vanden Plas, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Yes. Other new
"discoveries" are RPWL, IZZ, Mangala Vallis, Maximum Indifference, Metaphor, Salem Hill, Anekdoten, Anglagard, Evergrey, Enchant,
Explorers Club, Magellan, Glass Hammer, Discipline, Iluvatar, Kaipa, Karmakanic, Lemur Voice, Mullmuzzler, Pain of Salvation,
Pineapple Thief, Platypus,
Liquid Tension Experiment, Sun Caged, and Superior.
I usually check my e-mail daily. You can send me e-mail anytime: Drop me a note!
This site is dedicated to my lovely wife, Beverly, my son Riley, my daughter Veronica, and my three stepdaughters, Brooke,
Sara and Leslie Newvine.
